Martin Fry has been in the energy management consultancy business since the 1980s. He played a leading role in the development of the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme, which eventually became the Carbon Trust Standard. He now plays a major role in international energy management standards, chairing committees for the British Standards Institute and leading UK delegations to drafting committee meetings, one of these leading to the Energy Management Systems Standard ISO 50001, first published in June 2011 and now being updated, for re-publication in 2018.. He is the convener for the EU energy auditing standard EN 16247-1, and its subsidiary parts on buildings, process and transport. He was also convener for the ISO energy auditing standard, ISO 50002, recently published. He is the UK Lead representative on the ISO TC301 committee, which overseas the development and maintenance of all relevant energy standards.
Martin is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at City University in London where he has been course leader for the Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics Masters Degree Course, set up in 1997. He now continues to teach on the course and supervise dissertations. He also lectures to final year undergraduate engineering students, introducing the real world of energy supply and demand.
Martin is the Honorary President of the Energy Services and Technology Association (ESTA) and a former Council Member of the Energy Institute.
